About Us

What is the Wooden Old Stone School?

The oldest one room schoolhouse in Michigan - that is open to the public.

The Wooden Stone School was built in 1850 by Reverend Robert Wooden in the Cambridge School District No. 6. The school closed in 1955 and was condemned in 1979 by the Cambridge Township. A group of citizens convinced the township to postpone demolition and in 1983, the site was deeded to the Wooden Old Stone School Association. The schoolhouse was restored in 1989.

Who is the Association?

The Wooden Old Stone School Association is comprised of local citizens that treasure the schoolhouse as a piece of their local history. They are a passionate bunch focused on maintaining the schoolhouse and continuing the educational path for future generations.
